Elkins Machine & Tool provides decades of experience in the manufactured screw machine industry, combining an ability to design and create specialized industrial products with an attention to detail that knows no bounds.

The heavily experienced Elkins’ staff is a skilled crew that can accommodate high volume projects but is flexible enough to excel in prototype development and short-run, fast-turnover orders.

Elkins’ specializes in Stainless Steel work, as well as Steel, Brass, Aluminum, Plastic and other exotic materials. Its Quality Control Division is QS 9001:2008 and ISO/TS TS16949 certified including three full-time QC staffers and NIST and A2LA accredited standards and tracking through QC Gage Pro. Its Shipping Division moves 100,000-parts weekly without error and includes a complete package tracking and stocking (with release requirement) capabilities.

One of Elkins’ key qualities is its ability to make its own form tooling, which makes it difficult to beat when it comes to fast turnarounds. That tool making includes PEPS Wire EDM procedures that turn three- or four-week jobs into three- and four-day jobs. The company’s 11,000-square-foot Screw Machining Division is supplemented by a 8,000-square-foot Second Operations Division and a specialized CNC Division (partner Multi Machining Capabilities) located right next door. The 6,500-square-foot CNC building specializes in CNC Turning, CNC Milling, Engineering and Prototyping.

Five Star Engineering was founded in 2003 by Steve Boehm, a mechanical engineer with a degree from Michigan Technological University. We’ve experienced steady growth since then and now have five employees running three vertical machining centers. Our shop is clean, organized and climate controlled year round. Our machining centers are connected to a mist collector to insure that the air remains mist-free. Five Star operates 24 hours-a-day five days-a-week. We work overtime during the week and work Saturdays and Sundays as required to expedite jobs. Our around-the-clock operation and flexibility of our work force guarantees that your parts arrive when you need them. Five Star is dedicated to providing our customers with the highest quality parts, delivered on-time, at a competitive price. A few words regarding Quality. ISO 9001:2008 management principles are followed every day at Five Star. We are not yet third-party registered, but we certainly understand and use the principles set forth in ISO 9001:2008. However, the high level of quality that we achieve is primarily due to a quality system that is unique to Five Star. It was developed by Steve Boehm, the founder of Five Star. He identified that there are just Five Components that determine the Quality of any job. The Five Components of Quality are: 1.Definition of the job This is usually in the form of a drawing from our customer. We use this information to develop our processes. These processes define every task that has to be completed to produce a given part. We continuously analyze these processes to find ways to improve them. 2.Tools to do the job We have state of the art tools including Mastercam for our CAD/CAM system and Haas machine tools. We are continually looking for new tools to help us achieve ever higher levels of quality. 3.Knowledge to use the tools All employees are trained to use the tools and are encouraged to increase their knowledge of machining. One incentive for employees to increase their knowledge is a $1,000 per year tuition reimbursement for approved courses. 4.Time to do the job Management collaborates with employees to insure that enough time is allocated to complete the given job. 5.Effort expended to do the job Maximizing effort starts by careful selection of employees. Everyone at Five Star has an aptitude for and love of machining. Five Star provides a safe, clean work environment and makes sure that effort is recognized and rewarded. In the rare instance that we have an issue with quality we know that one or more of the above components must be addressed. The Five Stars in our name stand for the Five Components of Quality.
